Why work with us?

Why use CBT-I for insomnia?

  • Targets persistent insomnia

CBT-I addresses sleep timing, time awake in bed and thoughts that interfere with rest.

  • Supports independent management

The skills learned during treatment can be used when sleep problems recur.

  • Michigan-licensed care

Our clinicians are licensed in Michigan and trained to provide CBT-I.

  • Insurance billed directly

We review benefits before the initial appointment and bill participating plans.

  • Keep the care team informed

With consent in place, we can keep your practice informed about your patient’s sleep treatment and progress.

When to recommend a sleep assessment

Consider referring adults who report:

  • Difficulty falling asleep, prolonged waking at night or waking too early over several months.
  • Persistent insomnia despite treatment for depression, anxiety or sleep apnea.
  • An interest in managing sleep without starting another medication.

Sleep treatment while other therapy continues

Patients who already have a therapist can still benefit from dedicated insomnia care. CBT-I concentrates on sleep within a limited course of appointments.

Daily sleep records help the clinician tailor the treatment to the patient.

Suspect sleep apnea too?

Sleep apnea often occurs together with insomnia. Our clinicians treat insomnia and arrange referrals to partner providers for apnea treatment as needed.

Score your own sleep

Answer all seven questions about the past two weeks. The Insomnia Severity Index adds your answers into a score between 0 and 28. This calculator does not submit a referral or add results to a medical record at Michigan Sleep Center.

For the first three questions, please rate the current (last 2 weeks) severity of your insomnia problem(s):

1. Difficulty falling asleep
2. Difficulty staying asleep
3. Problem waking up too early
4. How satisfied/dissatisfied are you with your current sleep pattern?
5. How noticeable to others do you think your sleep problem is in terms of impairing the quality of your life?
6. How worried/distressed are you about your current sleep problem?
7. To what extent do you consider your sleep problem to interfere with your daily functioning (e.g., daytime fatigue, mood, ability to function at work or with daily chores, concentration, memory) currently?

A score is not a diagnosis. Discuss the result and your sleep history with a licensed clinician. A referral to Michigan Sleep Center does not require a particular score.

We contact your patient

Your patient hears from our Michigan intake team for help booking the initial visit and reviewing benefits.

2

Treatment begins

The initial visit lasts about 50 minutes and reviews how the insomnia began, previous treatments and current health concerns. A typical course includes four to eight weekly appointments. The patient keeps a sleep diary, and the clinician uses it to guide the sleep schedule and review progress.

3

We keep you informed

With consent in place, we can keep your practice informed about your patient’s sleep treatment and progress.

Most appointments are conducted by video with Michigan-licensed clinicians. A limited number of clinicians also see patients in person, and availability is confirmed when scheduling. Patients must be located in Michigan throughout their visits.
